May 6 Salamanca to Calzada de Valdunciel (Stage 21)

We left Salamanca, and our beautiful hostel after a breakfast of orange juice, croissants, sweetbreads, toast, jam, butter and coffee. The trail was almost all dirt roads. The sun was out the first time in weeks . The roads still muddy and hard to navigate but well marked. We felt good and walked for about 3 hours. We arrived at our small albergue, only 8 beds, in Calzada de Valdunciel. It is a small town with a population of 620 . It is an agrarian town but has a wonderful web site. Calcazadadevaldunciel.es. Jean Claude and his wife Joseph along with their good friend Jean Paul, all 3 from France, and Irene from Ireland and her friend plus a gentleman from South Korea have filled the beds. We decided to walk out to the main highway and have a meal at the restaurant Joaquin. Lentil soup, salad, drinks and bread. After we told Jean Claude where we had lunch, he said that his guide book advises that eating at Joaquin would be expensive. Lesson learned to search the web for better guide books in English.
